"The Church of the Risen Lord"

DEVOTIONAL FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 26 2008.

“Now the LORD said to Samuel, ‘How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.’ And Samuel said, ‘How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.’ And the LORD said, ‘Take a heifer with you, and say, “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.” Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.’ ” (1 Samuel 16:1-3)

Some simple biblical truths are taught here...

[1] God can and will reject your ministry as you are disobedient to Him.

[2] God will choose whom He desires to serve Him in particular ways. We are not the ones who make those decisions, God does.

[3] God will use the most humanly unlikely people at times, simply because He knows they will be available and obedient to Himself.

[4] Being afraid is NOT an excuse, it is a lie stuffed into the skin of a reason, for “God has not given us the spirit of fear...”
